Incorporated: the cyberpunk series cancelled too soon

Incorporated is a cyberpunk series from Syfy, one season long, cancelled for low ratings, and it left a mark anyway. It aired between late 2016 and January 2017, and it is the kind of series that ages better than the year it was born in.

Two corporations own the world. The elite lives in the green zones; everyone else survives in the red zones, where money buys anything. In the middle, a skint who is extremely good with technology manipulates his own past to infiltrate the suits. Implants, memory editors, drugs and weapons are the furniture; the story underneath is human.

Why watch a cancelled series

Because the first season closes enough threads to work and leaves the rest in the air as a threat. It is the cyberpunk of the world we already live in: corporate power above the state, and a very skilled person deciding what she is willing to become.

The cyberpunk of the present, not the future

What separates Incorporated from the rest of the genre is the politics. There are no neon gods and no chosen hackers: there is a man with a mortgage, a conscience and a skill set, deciding how much of himself he is willing to sell to move up one floor.

If you like cyberpunk that could happen tomorrow, this is the one on this list. One season, ten episodes, and a premise that has not aged a day.
